Tacit Knowledge

Tactic knowledge is unwritten, unmentioned, and invisible vast storehouse of knowledge held by almost every individual. It is determined by his or her emotions, experiences, insights, instinct, observations, etc. Tacit knowledge is the type of knowledge which is tough to transfer to another individual by way of writing it down or verbalizing it. Tacit knowledge is automated, demands minimum time or thought and helps determine how companies decide and influence the collective behavior of their members. Tacit knowledge is technical or intellectual and it is composed of mental models, values, beliefs, views, insights and assumptions. Examples of Tacit Knowledge: The ability to speak a language, use geometry, or design and use sophisticated devices which is not always known explicitly, and which is tough to explicitly transfer to users.

Knowledge transfer means the process through which knowledge is transferred to people and organizations which can gain from it. In other words, knowledge transfer is the systematic duplication of the expertise, wisdom, and tacit knowledge of experts into the mind and hands of their colleagues. Knowledge transfer has long been a challenge for businesses. Knowledge transfer is only useful if it is included in a set of policies for knowledge generation and capture.
